“If the public expects our schools to develop the post-industrial basics in every child – literacy, numeracy, thinking and teamwork skills, self-discipline, knowledge of the world, knowledge of self and the capacity for lifelong learning – then the people of the community must act as partners.”

Schools Cannot Do It Alone
Can we expect more of ourselves as shareholders of the public schools? The Baldwin County Education Coalition has heard from hundreds of citizens since organizing in 2010 and the answer is an unequivocal, Yes, we can!
That’s why the Community Agreement — based on input from over 1300 Baldwin citizens — emphasizes the role of the community in effecting real and lasting change.
The Agreement concludes by naming five priority areas in which improvements are needed:
- Adequate, Stable Funding
- Data-driven Accountability
- Leadership
- Graduation for All: College and Career Readiness
- Communication
The Coalition serves as the accountability mechanism for reporting progress toward meeting these expectations and for engaging citizens to fulfill their responsibilities as shareholders of the public schools.
